Today you will learn about the best man that ever lived. We already know that the prophets were the best from all the people. But our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) was the best from all the prophets. He was the most special person chosen by Allah.

Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) is the best and his story is also the best from all the prophets! By reading his story, we will learn how the best person ever lived!

Our Prophet Muhammad Becomes a Prophet

Before a prophet even becomes a prophet, Allāh saves them from doing anything bad. They live a very good life so that when they become prophets, it is easy for people to believe them. If the prophets were to do bad things before becoming prophets, then no one would trust them and believe them.
This was the same with our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam). Allāh protected him from doing anything bad. Before our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) became a prophet, the people in Makkah would worship idols and do very bad things. But our our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) would always think that it was wrong and would never do it.

Helping in Building the Ka’bah

When the people of Makkah were building the Ka’bah, Abbas (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu) who was the uncle of our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam), told him to take off his trousers so that the stones he was carrying on his shoulders do not hurt him. As soon as our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) tried to do this, he fainted. After this Allāh made sure that he was never seen naked again.

Like this, Allah protected our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) from all bad things even before he became a prophet.

Having Good Dreams

Before our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) became a prophet, he started having good dreams. Whatever he would see in these dreams would become true. This carried on for six months.

After this, our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) liked to stay alone. He always wanted to stay away from other people so he could remember and think about Allah.

Cave of Hira

Near the Ka’bah, there is mountain called Hira. In that mountain there is a cave. This is known as the cave of Hira. Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) would go there. He would stay away from everyone and worship Allah.

He would take food with him and stay there for days and days. When the food would finish, he would come back to Khadijah (r.a.) to get more food. Then he would go back to the cave.

The Angel

When our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) became 40 years old, he was in the cave of Hira. Suddenly, the angel Jibrail (ʿalayhi s-salām) appeared. He said to our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam), “Read!”

Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) said, “I cannot read!”

Jibrail (ʿalayhi s-salām) took our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) and squeezed him very tightly. He let go and told him, “Read!” Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) said the same that, “I cannot read!”

Again Jibrail (ʿalayhi s-salām) took our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) and squeezed him very tightly. He let go and told him, “Read!” Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) said the same that, “I cannot read!”

Jibrail (ʿalayhi s-salām) took our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) and squeezed him for the third time, and said:

This was the first part of the Qur’an that Jibrail (ʿalayhi s-salām) taught our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam). And this was the day our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) became a prophet.

Going Back to Khadijah (r.a.)

After this had happened, our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) came back down from the mountain to Khadijah (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhā). He was very scared and frightened because this had never happened before.

Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) went to Khadijah (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhā) and said, “Cover me! Cover me!”

Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) then told her what had happened. He told her that he was scared that something might happen to him.

Khadijah (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhā) said, “Never! Allah will never let anything happen to you. You are good to your family. You help the poor and needy. You give food to your guests. You help people who are in trouble.”

Going to Waraqah

Khadijah (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhā) had a cousin called Waraqah, He was very wise and knew a lot of things. He was old and had lost his eyesight.

Khadijah (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhā) told him to ask our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) about what had happened.

Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) told Waraqah exactly what he had seen.

Waraqah said, “This is the same Jibrail (ʿalayhi s-salām) who would come to Prophet Musa (ʿalayhi s-salām)!”

Then Waraqah said, “I wish I was a young man so I could help you when the people take you out of Makkah.

Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) asked, “Will they take me out?”

Waraqah said, “Yes. Any prophet who came with a message from Allah was treated in the same way. If I have a long life, then I will support you and help you.”

After a few days Waraqah died.

Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) stopped getting messages from Allah. Jibrail (ʿalayhi s-salām) stopped coming to him. This made our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) very sad.
