Today you will learn about the best man that ever lived. We already know that the prophets were the best from all the people. But our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) was the best from all the prophets. He was the most special person chosen by Allah.

Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) is the best and his story is also the best from all the prophets! By reading his story, we will learn how the best person ever lived!

Islam Starts to Spread

Everyday Islam was becoming stronger and stronger. The people of Makkah saw that more and more people were becoming Muslims.

The days of Hajj were coming close. A lot of people were going to come to Makkah and hear about our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam). The people of Makkah became worried that even more people would Muslims.

They had to make a plan to stop people from listening to our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam). They had to think about what they would tell the people that would come to Makkah.

Making a Plan

The people of Makkah went to a man called Walīd. He was one of the old people of Makkah at that time. They all had to make the same plan. If they all said different things, no one would believe them.

Walīd told the people to give ideas and he would decide which one is the best.

Someone said, “Let’s call him a madman. Walīd said, “I know what a madman is like and he is not a madman.”

Another person said, “Let’s call him a poet.” Walīd said, “I write poems myself and whatever he says is nothing like poetry.”

Someone else said, “Let’s call him a magician. Walīd said, “I know what a magician is like and he is not a magician.”

The people said to Walīd, “What should we say about him?”

Walīd thought for a while and then said, “Say to the people that he is a magician. Tell them that he uses his words and he makes people fight.”

All the people agreed with him.

The Time of Hajj

The time of Hajj came and people from far away started to come to Makkah. They were going to hear about the new prophet. They were going to hear about our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam). The people of Makkah sent people to the roads from where people were coming. Whoever would come, they would tell them that our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) was a magician. They would warn them to stay away from him.

All the people now wanted to know who our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) was. They wanted to know why he was so special that the people of Makkah were even scared of him.

Hamza (r.a.) Becomes a Muslim

One day our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) was walking near Mount Safa. He suddenly saw Abu Jahl. He was an enemy of our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam). He started to say bad things to our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam), but our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) stayed quiet and never said anything bad. There was a girl who was standing there and she saw everything that had happened.

We learn from this that when someone says bad things to us, we should not get angry and say bad things back. We should stay quiet and be patient. If we say bad things back, then we will become the same as them.

Hamza (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu) was the uncle of our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam). One day, he was coming back to Makkah from a hunting trip. He was carrying his bow with him. On the way, he met the girl that had seen what had happened. She told Hamza (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu) what had happened to our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam).

As soon has Hamza (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu) heard this, he went to look for Abu Jahl. He went to the Ka’bah and saw Abu Jahl sitting with a group of his friends. Hamza (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu) went to him and hit him with his bow.

He said to Abu Jahl, “You swear at Muhammad! Even I follow his religion.”

Some people tried to help Abu Jahl but he stopped them. He knew he deserved what Hamza (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu) did to him.

When the people of Makkah found out that Hamza (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu) had become a Muslim, they knew that it Islam was becoming even more stronger. They knew that it was going to be hard to hurt the Muslims.
