Today you will learn about the life of one of the best people that ever lived. These were men sent by Allāh. You will learn why they were sent and what lessons we can learn from their lives. They were known as the Prophets of Allāh.

The Story of Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām)

A very long time ago, there lived a man called Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām). He was from the family of the Prophets. He had a wife and children and they all lived a very happy life. Allāh blessed Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) with many sons and daughters. He was rich and owned a lot of animals.

He would worship Allāh and thank Him for everything He had given him.

He loved the poor and would give them food and clothes. He would always invite a poor person to eat with him. He would not like to eat alone.

The Test

Allāh decided to test Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) for all the blessings he had. Allāh tested him by taking everything away from him. Even his health became a test. He became very ill and sick. But all of this did not stop him from worshipping and remembering Allāh.

Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) knew that everything he had was given to him by Allāh, so Allāh can take away anything He wants. Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) knew that Allāh sometimes gives and Allāh sometimes takes.

We learn that sometimes we are having a very good life and suddenly everything starts going bad. We should think that this is a test from Allāh. Allāh wants to see if we complain or if we stay patient.

We should never complain to Allāh for anything that happens because whatever Allāh does to us, it is better for us. Sometimes we might think something is bad, but it is actually good. So we should always be grateful to Allāh for everything he has given us and if ever Allāh takes things away from us, we should remember that Allāh is testing us. We should not complain and fail the test but we should be patient.

The Illness

Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) became so ill that everyone left him. Every single part of his body became ill except his tongue and his heart. Everyone left him except his wife. No one wanted to come near him. They were all scared that they might catch the illness from Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām).

Even though he was in so much pain and difficulty, Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) never complained or got angry. He remained patient for years and years.

Allāh Rewards Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām)

After many years, Allāh wanted to reward Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām).

One day, the wife of Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) complained saying, “Why don’t you tell Allāh to make all this go away?”

Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) asked her, “How many years were we living a good life? Allāh has only made us like this for a few years, so why should I complain?”

Then Allāh told Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) to make duʿā everything gets better. He asked Allah for His mercy but he never complained.

After Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) made duʿā, Allāh gave everything back to him. He became rich again. Allah gave him back everything he had before.

The Special Water

Allāh told Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) to stamp the ground with his foot. When he stamped his foot, fresh water started to come out. Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) drank the water and had a bath. After he had a bath, all the illnesses he had on his body went away. And when he drank the water, all the illnesses inside his body went away. He became beautiful and healthy again.

When his wife came home, she did not even recognise him. She could not believe that it was Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām). She asked Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) where her husband was? Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) said, “I am your husband!” She got angry and thought the person was making fun of her.

Then Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) explained what had happened. She became very happy to see him healthy again.

You can imagine how bad Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām)‘s health must have been! Even his wife did not recognise him!

Allāh gave him his wealth, health and family back. But Allāh gave him even more that what he had before.

We learn that when Allāh tests us and takes everything away from us, we should be patient. If we are patient, then Allāh will give us everything back and even more.

A Reminder for Everyone

Allāh says in the Qur’an that the story of Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) is a reminder for everyone. We should take Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām)‘s life as an example and be patient.

Lessons from the Story of Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām)

We must remember some very important lessons from the story of Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām):

We learn that we should always remember Allāh when anything bad happens to us. We should ask Allāh to help us. We should never lose hope and carry on being patient. Think about how many years Ayyūb (ʿalayhi s-salām) was patient for!

We should remember that everything we have is given to us by Allāh. So Allāh can take away from us whatever He wants. But when Allāh does this, we should never complain.

We should remember that whenever something bad happens to us and we are patient, Allāh forgives our sins. Allāh forgives anything bad we have done.
