Paying Off Debts for Others

The easiest way in gaining the pleasure of Allah is to serve others and be a helping hand to his creation. Be of assistance at times of pain and difficulty. Visit them if they are sick. Pay off debts on behalf of others etc. Shaykh al-Islam Mawlānā Ḥusain Aḥmad Madanī was penniless and a man of simplicity. However, when it came to assisting the creation of Allah, he was always at the forefront. Aiding and assisting people was a deed much-loved by him and which he always sought. He would pay off the debts of the poor and needy which in turn made him beloved in the eyes Creator and the creation.

Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Sayyid Muḥammad Miyān Ṣāḥib writes:

“I borrowed some money from a friend but the delicate situation made it somewhat necessary that Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Ḥusain Aḥmad Madanī intercedes on my behalf. I could not arrange for the payment on time, hence, a complaint was made to Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Ḥusain Aḥmad Madanī. Ḥaḍrat paid off the sum from his own side and notified me of its payment. He paid it off without any intention of receiving a return payment and neither has the thought ever crossed my mind that I need to pay him back as he left no room for negotiation or parley.

I was well aware that Ḥaḍrat was himself in debt at that time and only Allah knows for how many other associates he has done the same with?”
