Detailed Account of the Journey

Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Aḥmad ʿAlī Sahāranpurī wrote commentary notes on Bukhārī, Tirmidhī and other aḥadīth books and was a well known ʿĀlim (scholar) and muḥaddith (ḥadīth expert). He visited Calcutta to solicit financial assistance for the erection of the old Maẓāhir al-ʿUlūm structure, as he had previously stayed there for a long time and had good connections with the people.

On his return he gave a detailed account of his journey and the expenditure and income of his trips. I myself (Shaykh-ul-Ḥadīth Haḍrat Mawlānā Muḥammad Zakariyyā Kandelwhī) read the report. In one place he wrote that he visited a certain place to meet a friend. Although he collected a good sum of money, his intention in going there was not for collection but to meet a friend. Hence, he did not add the expenses incurred in going and coming from the list of expenditure.
