In 1949, Qārī Ṣiddīq Bāndwī had the opportunity to perform his first ḥajj. He mentioned that his habit was to spend his entire time in the Masjid al-Ḥarām and would only leave out of necessity. He further relates [in humility] that Allah granted me the chance to serve his bondsmen. One of my fellow companions fell severely ill with diarrhoea. There was nobody to tend to his needs as all of his other companions had deserted him out of despair. Through the grace of Allah, I looked after him; I would bring him medicine, change and wash his clothes, cook and feed him despite cooking not being my forte. This was the only which forced me to leave the Masjid al-Ḥarām. Otherwise, I would spend my time reciting the Qur’ān, doing ṭawāf (circumambulation around the Kaʿba), etc.
Ḥājī Nasir Ṣāḥib commenting on this incident used to say, “It was after this I witnessed Qārī Ṣiddīq’s exceptional character and his zeal for helping others and it was then that I realised his status.”
